FAQ

Can I create my own estate plan with AI or an online document service?

Yes. AI tools and online services can help you create your own estate plan, and some services offer attorney assistance. Before relying on the result, understand who will evaluate whether it fits your circumstances and what work remains after signing. If you proceed without professional review, you are also responsible for recognizing what the plan may have missed.

You can use AI or an online service to help create estate planning documents. A chatbot may generate language in response to your instructions. An online service may guide you through a questionnaire and produce a set of documents. Some services also offer attorney guidance or review. The scope of that help depends on the service and package you choose.

Each approach can produce documents that look finished. The question is whether the result addresses what you need it to address.

Who is evaluating the plan?

Estate planning requires decisions about who can act for you, who receives your property, and how those instructions apply to your family and assets. A document may sound legally appropriate while leaving out an important decision or producing a result you did not intend.

If you create your own estate plan and proceed without professional review, you also take on the job of evaluating its adequacy. That includes deciding:

  • Whether the tool asked about the circumstances that matter to you
  • Whether you understood the choices it offered
  • Whether the documents reflect your wishes and meet the applicable legal requirements

If a service advertises attorney support, find out what that support includes. A consultation about a specific question, review of an individual document, and evaluation of the complete plan involve different scopes of work. Ask which of those services you will receive.

What happens after the documents are signed?

You also need to check how your property will actually pass. Account ownership and beneficiary designations can direct assets outside the instructions in a will. A trust may require transfers or other coordination before it governs the assets you intend it to govern. Signing documents does not, by itself, complete those steps.

Depending on your assets and goals, implementation may involve deeds, account changes, beneficiary designations, or business ownership documents. Someone needs to identify the necessary work and track it through completion.

AI can be a useful tool in legal work. Attorneys who use it remain responsible for reviewing its output and meeting their professional obligations. When you use AI or an online service, the practical question is who will evaluate your plan and help put it into effect. An omission may remain hidden until your loved ones need the documents to work.

Cardon Law can help you examine your goals, documents, and assets together, determine which planning approach fits your circumstances, and coordinate the steps needed to carry out your intentions.
